On the 30th of April 2013, Willem Alexander the Prince of Orange takes over the throne from his mother Queen Beatrix. Koninginne dag (Queen’s day) usually celebrated on the 30th of April shall be Queens day no more.
It is nice to see people getting excited here in the Netherlands with bakeries selling orange coloured cakes and common grocery stores selling things like tomato creme soup in special Queens day editions. Chocolate 1 euro coins the size of my hand and boxes full of cookies with the Queen and her son on the cover.
At the clinic I did my internship at the clients were talking about how the Queen to be is from Argentina and not only is she beautiful but she speaks Dutch fluently.
When cycling by houses I see flags flying up high with an orange banner flying above it.
I really like the Netherlands :)
